GUILD OF IB SCHOOLS NORTHEAST
I have questions on behalf of my school's guidance department. We have been using IB grades on our report cards and transcript since we were officially authorized by the IB (two years ago for MYP, one year ago for DP). Now that are students are approaching college and graduation, the counselors feel that the IB grades are doing strange things to their GPAs, and their credits for graduation.
This leads to the following questions:
1. If you use a conversion chart for IB grades into percentage grades, what chart do you use?
2. If your school has MYP, how do you report your IB grades?
3. Do you have any advice for our guidance department about all this?
This is always an issue as it leads to vigorous discussion. I have worked in 4 IB schools all over the world and this is the most used and, I think, best conversion:
High 7 = A+
Low 7= A
High 5 B+
Mid 5 B
Low 5 B-
Mid 4= C
Low 4= C-
Same as above for 3=D+ to D-
1 and 2 is F
